I don’t know about you, but this festive period seemed to be the busiest that I can personally remember for a long time. The common consensus seems to be that the Soul Control website is working well at disseminating the necessary info on where to go, what’s hot and what’s not which is pleasing to hear!! This assessment will aim to give an overall round up from people who were there of all the events covered, so if you missed out at least you’ll be in the loop as to what’s been going on...
Soul Out @ Barca Boxing Day 2007
One reviewer claimed that they arrived at Barca at 1am and the venue was closed. On speaking to the promoter Wadey, he conceded that in hindsight it was an error on his part to put two major events so close together over the festive period. Apparently only 20 people turned out for this one, I think that fact explains what this event was like.

Reno Revival Part 2 @ Mint Lounge Thursday 27th December 2007
The overall impression was that this event was successful, but more out of the expectation of the event than the entertainment on the night. There was initial confusion as to what was happening with this one because a lot of people weren’t sure if it was taking place at the Mint Lounge, Relish or not at all. For most people the music ebbed and flowed a bit too much, but they appreciated the fact that they had the chance to meet up with so many old friends.

Seductive Soul @ Saracens Head Friday 28th December 2007
This was one for the connoisseurs but surprisingly the music was quite commercial in parts. The Main man Chris was quite concerned about they way the music veered off course during the night and has promised to put it right for the next event on Saturday 19th January 2008. The Festive offering was busier than usual and the Seductive Soul natives seemed happy overall with just being in this environment. Apparently March will be the last Seductive Soul event at the Saracens Head and they are heading for pastures new, the new venue will be confirmed in due course and the Soul Control news desk will endeavour to bring you the latest updates as soon as it breaks.

Golden Touch @ the Golden Tulip Saturday 29th December 2007
This was a welcome break for those who attended the many Soul orientated events over the festive period. The night was based around revival Reggae and Soul Classics and it didn’t disappoint!! I attended this event and must say that there were a few musical surprises in store especially when I heard a remix of the Amy Winehouse track “Valerie” which went down an absolute storm!! All the DJ’s performed well although in the main Soul set provided by DJ Lascelles & Michael H, it was a little predictable, but I suppose this is what the Golden touch revellers had come to hear. Overall the night was a success although an extra 50 people or so wouldn’t have gone amiss.

Soul Night @ King George’s Hall Blackburn Saturday 29th December 2007
The overall impression of this night was that it was a bit of a letdown. This was mostly because it was no different to the usual Soul Night’s at this venue, but beware of familiarity breeding contempt!! The negativity seemed to surround the fact that most of the music was concentrated into less rooms, so instead of having dedicated arena’s, the music was sectioned off over 2 rooms with an hour of each type of music being played which upset quite a few people. The night was considered so so by most so if you missed this one, you didn’t miss a lot by all accounts!!

Rare Groove Revival @ Relish Sunday 30th December 2007
This event has received the most positive responses of all the festive events by far!!! There were some complaints about the music not being quite what was expected, but the overall impression garnered was that most people were more than satisfied with the spectacle rather than with the entertainment on offer. Having said that to make an event a success takes more than just a nice venue or good music, most night’s can only be judged fairly on the overall experience and taking this into account this event was considered a success by most for what it was.

Soul Out @ Barca New Years Eve 2007
The overall impression that was gathered was that this event was a big let down for most, but a good night for others. Most people see things differently and that diversity of opinions is why there are so many options for entertainment. One review posted on the Soul Control website stated that this was an excellent event and that Barca was reasonably full with great entertainment, whilst others told a completely different story. The average opinion that we can gather is that the event didn’t live up to expectations and whilst the attendees got what they paid for, New Years Eve at Barca was no different to any other Soul Out event apart from the extreme cold in parts of the venue, less people than normal and the additional Reggae arena. Elegance @ Moso Moso New Years Eve 2007
In all honesty, the reports gathered regarding Elegance were very poor. On a positive note most people were grateful for the fact that there wasn’t an excessive charge for the night, but by all accounts this was offset by the poor entertainment and attendance. Elegance was the most aggressively advertised event by far over the festive period which is a credit the all those involved with the event, but the delivery on the night didn’t live up to expectations on any front.
